For Families & Friends of Those Suffering with Addiction
The road to recovery is hard to survive alone.
Fighting for our family and friends is never easy, but we all know that it is worth it. That’s probably why you have found yourself here.
At NSR of Asheville, we believe recovery is a family journey that should include family recovery support. Our addiction treatment programs equip men with interpersonal skills that can help to repair relationships; however, they are never the only ones that need healing.
As we say:
“Recovery is the Real Adventure.”
It’s always better when those on the journey have support from those they love.
The Family Recovery Journey: From Trauma and Shame to Acceptance and Healing
Addiction takes a tremendous toll on families who often struggle for years with the emotional, financial, and physical consequences of untreated addiction.
Recovery often includes relapse, job loss, and tumultuous relationships. These patterns can rapidly snowball particularly when families don’t get support for their own recovery process. Even the best recovery programs can fail to heal long-standing family trauma without complete buy in.
The good news is that families can have a tremendous positive impact on recovery when they commit to their own healing. In fact, recovery offers many opportunities to build stronger families through self-discovery, personal growth, and cultivating more authentic, healthy relationships. Some of our family testimonials are proof of that.
There are many ways families can support their own healing process.

Reviews From Family
Here’s what the parents of a recent alumni had to say:
“As parents of a young man who is struggling with addiction, it has been gut wrenching to say the least.
After several inpatient treatments and other facilities, NSR of Asheville has been a godsend to us, as well as to our son. NSR of Asheville is committed to helping their residents transition into a normal, addiction-free life. They do this by providing life-skills training and requiring several AA meetings each week. The program is designed to give these men back their pride and dignity.
We have seen a change in our son. Probably the biggest difference with Next Step is they care. Susan and Mick have a place in their hearts for their residents, and they care about them. They want them to be successful. They have always been there for us and my son—anytime we needed them. They understand what the residents and their families are going through.
You will not find a more caring, well-equipped, or safer place than NSR of Asheville. God bless the staff and their work there.”
